Call for Full Paper and Workshop Submission
The 37th Australasian Association for Engineering Education Annual Conference (AAEE 2026) is now accepting full paper and workshop submissions.
Submission Tracks and Guideline
AAEE2026 has three submission tracks: Research Paper, Practice Paper or Workshop that will be delivered in person at the conference. Authors will be asked to nominate a track at submission.
Research Papers
Research papers include original contributions (e.g. case studies, empirical studies, theoretical analyses, and scoping literature reviews) that are aligned with the conference scope. A research paper advances knowledge in engineering education research through a significant and original contribution, or through an extension of existing knowledge. Submissions should include a literature review, theoretical framework/concepts (if relevant), a clearly articulated methodology, an overview of data collection methods, analysis, interpretation of findings/results, discussion, and conclusion.
Practice Papers
Practice papers present scholarly accounts of implemented or ongoing practice and initiatives in engineering education (e.g. case studies). Submissions may describe how authors have implemented or informed engineering education practice, applied concepts within engineering education contexts, reflected on relevant literature and its application to practice within engineering education, and/or articulated its broader implications beyond the immediate educational context. Practice papers should provide insights, specific steps, recommendations, or techniques for addressing problems or improving educational outcomes.
Workshops
Workshops are 1.5 or 3-hour long interactive sessions, facilitated by one or more workshop facilitators, that are grounded in sound theory and practical application for engineering education. It typically involves active participation through activities such as demonstrations, guided tasks, small-group discussion, problem-solving, and hands-on practice.
All full paper submissions will be subjected to a double-blind peer review, and only papers that meet the review requirements will be accepted for inclusion in the conference program. All accepted Research Papers and Practice Papers will be published on the conference website and indexed on Informit. Accepted Research Papers will also be published in the AAEE Conference Proceedings and submitted to Scopus for consideration of indexing. Acceptance to the research track is not guaranteed, nor is acceptance by Scopus. For more information, visit the AAEE Conference Proceedings page.

Conference Theme and Topics
The Australasian Association for Engineering Education Annual Conference brings together educators, researchers, students and industry partners to share evidence-based ideas and innovations that strengthen engineering education across Australasia and beyond.
The AAEE2026 theme, ‘Making the Impossible, Possible’ recognises the urgency of transformation in engineering education. It calls us to envision ambitious futures that might seem impossible, to think creatively and expansively, and to take the practical steps that bring those visions to life. It is about imagining new realities and equipping future engineers with skills and tools for a better future.
Authors in all areas of engineering education are invited to submit abstracts for a conference paper, with a particular emphasis on the following topics:
- Academic Development
- Accreditation
- Artificial Intelligence
- Assessment and Feedback
- Course Design and Development
- Curriculum Design and Development
- Education Technology
- Engineering Ethics
- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
- Indigenous Knowledge
- Industry Partnerships
- Interdisciplinary Learning
- K-12 Education
- Laboratories
- Makerspaces
- Pedagogical Innovation
- Professional Practice
- Project Based Learning
- Social-Technical Integration
- Student Mobility
- Sustainability
- Teamwork
- Transitions to University
- Work Integrated Learning
- Wellbeing and Belonging
Submission Instructions
- The presenting author can present a maximum of three presentations and/or workshops in total.
- Full paper and workshop submissions will only be accepted and reviewed using the official online submission portal - links available below.
- Download and complete the appropriate template format prior to commencing the submission process.
- Research and Practice Papers utilise a double-blind peer-review process. Check that you have removed all identifying information from the manuscript and file metadata before submitting the paper, including authors’ names and affiliations, institutional names (e.g., universities, departments, research centres), references to specific, identifiable courses and/or programs, and self-referencing statements to previous work.
- Studies involving human participants must include the ethics statement, e.g. “This study was approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the University of XXXX (Approval No. HREC2026/XXXX)” where XXXX serves as a placeholder to anonymise identifying details.
- Ensure your paper is saved as a PDF with the file name format: ‘Last Name_First Initial_The first five words of your paper title.pdf’, e.g. ‘doe_j_Project Based Learning in First Year.pdf’.
